Textile promotional products with logo: what gets used and how to plan
Bags, caps, umbrellas, socks and more: which textile promotional products really get used, which decoration suits which item and how to plan in good time for trade fairs and events.
What makes a good promotional product
A promotional product is only as good as its use. Whatever ends up in a drawer doesn’t advertise anything. A good bag, on the other hand, is often carried for a long time. That is the big advantage of textile items: they are useful, they have surface area, and they move through everyday life with their owners.
If you want bags printed with your logo, for example, first ask yourself where the bag will be out and about later: shopping, on the train, at the trade fair. The more often it is seen outside, the harder your logo works.
Three questions before you choose
Will the item really be used? Will people other than the recipient see it? Does it suit you and your target group? If you can answer yes to all three, the item is a good choice.
The items at a glance
Each item has its place and its own suitable decoration. This overview helps with a first selection:
| Item | Where it is seen | Decoration |
|---|---|---|
| Bags and cotton totes | Out and about, shopping, at trade fairs | Screen printing or DTF |
| Gym sacks | School, sport, festivals | Screen printing or DTF, polyester with DTF |
| Caps | Outdoors, at events, in the team | Mostly embroidery, also 3D embroidery |
| Umbrellas | On the street, every time it rains | Print on the canopy |
| Socks | In the team and as a gift | Print, sublimation or embroidery depending on the model |
| Tea towels | Kitchens, hospitality, offices | |
| Cushions | Reception, lounge, exhibition stand | Print on the cover |
Bags and gym sacks: the large surface
Bags and gym sacks offer a large, calm surface. A clear logo or slogan works there even from a distance. The material is decisive, because it determines the method.
Among the gym sacks in our shop you’ll find both worlds: cotton models from Westford Mill at 140 to 407 g/m² and light polyester models from BagBase. How to print cotton bags properly is shown in our guide printing jute and cotton bags. If your logo should travel on people’s backs every day, read backpacks with a logo: embroidery or print?
| Criterion | Natural feel Cotton | Light, smooth Polyester |
|---|---|---|
| Method | Screen printing or DTF | Usually DTF |
| Effect | High-quality, durable, often reused | Sporty, light, easy to hand out |
| Weight | From light to very sturdy | Very light |
| Typical for | Trade fairs, shopping, staff | Running events, schools, clubs |

From the workshop
One colour, strong contrast
The photo shows a black logo screen printed on a red shirt. A single dark colour on a strong background is instantly readable, even from a distance. The same principle applies to bags and umbrellas: the clearer the contrast, the better your logo works in passing.
Matching garments
Design them in the shop
Caps: embroidery with depth
Caps are the classic among wearable promotional products. The logo sits at the front at eye level and is seen in every conversation. For caps we usually recommend embroidery, because it looks high-quality and suits the firm front panel. With 3D embroidery the logo is raised and gains visible depth.
The embroidery file is included with us, and we embroider with up to three thread colours. Which position and size work on caps and beanies is explained in our guide embroidering caps and beanies.
Clear logo, few colours
We put up to three thread colours cleanly onto the front
3D embroidery for lettering
Bold, simple shapes look especially good raised
Fine gradients and photos
Cannot be embroidered – print is the right method for those
Umbrellas, socks, kitchen, cushions
Beyond bags and caps there are items that are given away less often and stand out precisely because of that. A few examples from our shop:
The Fare umbrellas in our shop have eight panels on which your logo can sit. The Windmatic stick umbrella measures 105 cm in diameter, the Fibermatic XL guest umbrella 130 cm. For socks, there are the Crew Socks from Build Your Brand without a third-party label, which can be embroidered or printed, and the Tennis socks from Mr. Socks with a cardboard insert for sublimation printing. The Organic Cotton Tea Towel from Westford Mill is made of organic cotton, measures 50 x 70 cm, has 170 g/m² and is washable at 40 °C. For reception and lounge areas there is a cotton canvas cushion cover with a concealed zip. More on material, design size and care for tea towels is in our guide to printing tea towels with your logo.
You want to be visible around town every time it rains.
Umbrella with print
Your team should look consistent at events.
Cap with embroidery
You need lots of pieces to hand out at the trade fair.
Bag with print
You are looking for a gift for staff or club members.
Socks with embroidery
You want to be present in kitchens or hospitality.
Tea towel with print
Often the best answer
Combine as a set
A printed bag and an embroidered cap in the same look – a package that stands out together.
Print + embroidery
Your logo for small areas
Many promotional products have less space than a shirt. On socks, caps and umbrella panels your logo has to work small. Fine lines and small lettering quickly disappear. A simplified version of your logo often helps, such as just the symbol without the tagline.
Give colours as values
Provide Pantone or HKS values. That way the colour matches across bag, cap and umbrella.
A file in good resolution
A vector file is ideal. A small pixel image is often not enough for large areas.
How best to send your logo is explained on the page supplying your logo. In the free layout consultation we show you how it looks on each item.
Plan backwards for trade fairs and events
For trade fairs and events the date is fixed. So plan backwards from the event. Delivery takes approx. 7–10 working days, plus selection, advice and print approval. If several items need to come together, give yourself a little more time.
Choose items and quantities
Pick the items, colours and quantities. With larger quantities the price per piece drops noticeably.
Logo and advice
You send your logo, and we advise you free of charge on size, position and method for each item.
Print approval
You receive a digital preview and sign it off before production.
Production in Munich
We print and embroider in our own workshop. Delivery takes approx. 7–10 working days.
Buffer before the event
Allow a few days in reserve so you can check and pack everything before set-up.
Frequently asked questions about promotional products
Which textile promotional products actually get used?
Above all, items with real everyday value: bags, caps, umbrellas and socks. They are used in everyday life and seen by others along the way.
Can I order different items with the same logo?
Yes. We adapt size and method to each item, for example print on the bag and embroidery on the cap. In the print approval you see all pieces beforehand.
How early do I need to order before a trade fair?
Delivery takes approx. 7–10 working days. Add selection, advice, print approval and a few days’ buffer, and plan backwards from the trade fair date.
Can promotional products be embroidered too?
Yes, above all caps and socks such as the Crew Socks. Large areas such as bags, umbrellas or tea towels are printed.
